South Korea launches multipurpose satellite Arirang 7 into orbit

(MENAFN) South Korea has achieved a significant milestone by successfully sending its newest multipurpose satellite, Arirang 7, into space, according to statements from the Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA).

The Korea Multipurpose Satellite 7 was launched on a Vega-C rocket from the Guiana Space Centre in French Guiana at 2:21 p.m. local time on Monday (1721 GMT), as reported by news outlets citing KASA.

The satellite detached from the rocket 44 minutes after liftoff, and officials confirmed its secure deployment once it established communication with a Russian Antarctic ground station.

Reports indicate that the France-based rocket operator also verified that Arirang 7 successfully entered orbit.

Built by the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI), Arirang 7 carries an ultra-high-resolution electro-optical camera along with an infrared sensor.

The satellite is anticipated to provide detailed imagery to support environmental monitoring, disaster management, and studies on urban heat island effects.
